LIVE-Addis Ethiopian Residents Charity TOR for Consultative Workshop to be held on December 27, 2012 on “National Volunteerism for Advanced Development”
LIVE-Addis Ethiopian Resident Charity is Non-governmental and non-for-profit organization that engages in different development activities. It was established in 2005 and re -registered by Federal Charities and Society’s Agency according to charities and societies proclamation No. 621/2009 with certificate number 0241.
LIVE- Addis aspires to see vulnerable women, children and youth in Ethiopia become socially and economically empowered, their lives improved and free from poverty. It works towards enhancing the capacity of vulnerable women, children and youth in Ethiopia through community based intervention in collaborating with developmental actors. LIVE- Addis has recently secured a grant from Voluntary Services Overseas Ethiopia (VSO-E) to engage in activities that geared to promoting national volunteerism (NV), with a theme of ‘National Volunteerism for Advanced Development’. The main purpose of the grant is to create public awareness to advance national volunteerism and initiate dialog among academicians, CSOs, CBOs, the private sector etc. Hence, the workshop will contribute to the efforts of CSOs, the government and the private sector in establishing well designed and organized system.
The concept and practice of volunteerism in Ethiopia is not new. It existed in the social system for the last thousands of years. However, due to the absence of well organized system many citizen particularly retirees, professionals and semi-professionals who are willing to participate in voluntary activities do not know how and where to participate. The prevailing system and information gap forced many development organizations to cost for staff recruitment and consultancy activities which could have been carried out by volunteers.
Promoting volunteerism is among the major core values of LIVE-Addis. To this end it has designed Volunteers Administration and Management Guideline and giving placement to professional and semi-professional youth volunteers, particularly university graduates. Since volunteers not only provide their time but also their skills and expertise and even their money, volunteerism in general and national volunteerism in particular can make significant contribution for advanced development if it is properly explored.
Objectives of the workshop
The main objectives of the workshop are:
- To draw lessons and document the past, examine the present and the future prospects of National Volunteerism in Ethiopia.
- To review the CSO’s, Government’s and the private sector effort towards institutionalizing volunteerism in general and National Volunteerism in particular.
- To initiate dialogue among scholars, practitioners, and policy makers
- To share the best practices of CSOs and the private sector on National volunteerism
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Dear Partners and friends,
I wish 2013 will be prosperous and peaceful to all partners.
2012 had been a good year with all its ups and downs. The good part was that your support for LIVE-Addis has benefited 100s vulnerable children, women and unemployed youth .Your time, your money, Your advice, Your concern helped the vulnerable to be self supported. With your support they are trained in all sorts of skills to be self employed or compete for jobs. Now they can afford to celebrate Christmas and New Year too.
They are looked by their previous fellow vulnerable as heroes and this made an aspiration for those who are unemployed, unskilled and living in dire poverty and wishes very much to have an opportunity like those who have got the chance of training. Here we are looking for support to impact another 100s in 2013.
We also want to share with you, the joy we had in 2012. LIVE-Addis won a two years grant from NEPAD/SPANISH Project after competing with over 600 organizations. The fund will be used to empower and benefit 500 vulnerable and unemployed young women from Lideta and kirkos Sub-cities of Addis Ababa. In these Wordas alone there are very many vulnerable children, women and unemployed youth.
LIVE -Addis has competed under urban poverty reduction category and out of over fifty organizations got 2nd rank and won National Charities Good practice of 2011/2012 and received a certificate and trophy. LIVE-Addis has demonstrated that its program is fruitful and sustainable. Our beneficiaries are our certificate for becoming self supportive and even extending their help to their families and neighbors.
Every day the poorest ones in our vicinity come to our compound and ask for training opportunities. True we are trying our best as far as our means allow us which is very limited.
Check out our website and please consider making a donation to help us for providing training fees for the poorest ones.
I wish you peace and prosperity in 2013.

To give thanks is important to appreciate your contributions not only to give recognitions to your good past and current roles you have been playing, but to encourage you all and others to contribute in supporting LIVE-Addis in the future.
Providing assistance for LIVE-Addis is much more than just giving money or any other resources. It is a life-long love of helping others who are tangled in a web of extreme poverty to get out of their afflictions of life in one or another way.
Each time you decide you WANT to help others; the experience will be so rewarding that the next time becomes easier to devote yourselves to help others more.
